Documents with the planning application, submitted by Abbey Care Saxon, say the array would be linked with the gradual upgrading and improving of the green credentials of the home through the heating system and insulation.
The design and access statement says: “The care home is based around the core of a Victorian house, and has had extensions added over the course of the last century at various times, although the maintenance of the building has been neglected for some years.
“This particular proposal therefore will assist in reducing heating costs and allow expenditure on improving the heat loss to the fabric of the building.”
The plan is for the array to span 21 metres across and be 2.5 metres deep, with the height of the supporting frame and panels at the front lowest point 600 mm and 2.3 metres at the rear with a pitch of 30 degrees.
It would be held in place with ground screw fixings.
The documents say the array could not be seen from the highways or any footpaths and should not be visible from neighbouring properties.
