Plans have been submitted to convert four buildings at Buxted Park Hotel, near Uckfield, to form 15 new bedrooms and a leisure facility.
Extensions are also proposed to form bedroom/bathroom entrance and gymnasium along with external works to improve a courtyard area between the buildings.
The four buildings are Harcourt House, The Bungalow, Briar and Dawn Cottages and Vernon House. All are currently used by the hotel staff accommodation storage and laundry.
A design and access statement submitted with the application says the hotel owners Hand Picked Hotels wish to expand and improve on facilities currently provided and the “logical way to do this, with minimal impact on the surroundings, is to convert the existing four buildings”.
There are currently 44 bedrooms at the hotel, which stands in 315 acres of parkland, and the works would provide 15 more. The leisure facility would include pool, jacuzzi, sauna and stem rooms, gymnasium and beauty treatment rooms.
The statement continues: “The provision of the leisure facilities, in particular, will provide further attractions to benefit the hotel’s trade and the additional bedrooms will allow it to attract larger functions and both will result in an increase in employment in the locality.
“Thge four buildings have suffered from a certain amount of neglect in the years prior to the current owners taking over, and will benefit from the refurbishment and preservation as proposed.
“The buildings are currently under-occupied by staff and alternative accommodation will be sourced locally for the staff that will be displaced by the refurbishment and alteration works.”
