UCTC principal, Hugh Hennebry, said: “There was much joy and pride as students at Uckfield Community College opened their GCSE results.
“The long wait was over and the happiness the students felt as they realised that their hard work had paid off was immense.
“Joining in their celebration were many parents and staff who had supported them on their first five years of secondary school. We wish them every success with the next exciting chapter of their lives.”
The college went on to say:
“The main measures for GCSE are new this year. The new way that schools are measured are:
-
Attainment 8 (how well each student has done in their best 8 GCSE subjects). All eight grades for every student will count towards this score.
-
Progress 8 (how well all the students have progressed since their primary schools SATs).
-
The percentage of students getting A*-C in both English and Maths.
“The Progress 8 score needs to compare how well our students have progressed in comparison with all the students in the country, so we will have to wait until they publish that figure in the school league tables.
“However, we do know our Attainment 8 score was 5.31, which equates to a C+.
“This means that the average grade achieved by all the students was a high C grade. Our percentage of students achieving A*-C in both English and Maths was 66%.
“The percentage of students achieving A*-C in Maths was 71% and the percentage of students achieving A*-C in English was 79%.
Nationally, GCSE results are down. This BBC article explains reasons for the decline
