It was a perfect night for Uckfield Carnival, warm and sunny as participants gathered, and balmy for the fiery processions.
Bonfire societies, with members bedecked in fabulous finery, gathered with bands and dancers in Grange Road to start the evening’s entertainment, while floats prepared to join festivities in Bell Lane.
Welcome
Bonfire and carnival society secretary Lynne Ireland was the first to have her torch lit, town crier Ian Bedwell bellowed out a welcome to the crowds and the annual event, the first of the bonfire season was under way.
Uckfield News photographs below record the build up of the evening and capture the start of processions. If you have pictures you would like to add to our coverage please send them to cathy@uckfieldnews.com.

Uckfield Mayor, Cllr Spike Mayhew, helps light the torches, as the first procession of the night gets under way.
