Paws n Claws celebrates 45 years in Uckfield

Paws n Claws pet shop is celebrating 45 years of business in Uckfield with the current owner Justine Aldridge having been there for 15 years.

The shop – which won Retailer of the Year in the Uckfield Business Awards last year – is tucked away off Uckfield High Street in Olives Yard and extends over two floors. It is packed with pet products ranging from food and toys, to beds, feeding bowls and travel carriers.

Justine knows her products well and is always pleased to offer advice about food and nutrition, allergies and behavioural problems.

Maggie and Freddie

She has two dogs herself, Maggie and Freddie, who keep her company at the shop where they are firm favourites with regular customers.

Cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, and wild birds … all are catered for, and there are loyalty cards available for customers who shop at Paws n Claws regularly.

The business used to be in Bell Walk where Derek and Ivy Maynard ran it for 29 years. Justine took over 15 years ago and, seven years ago, moved into Olives Yard, where there is plenty of parking beside the premises.

She said: “I think it is quite an achievement for an independent business to have been running for 45 years but our prices are competitive, I know the products well, and enjoy being able to offer advice to pet owners.”

Justine added that all are welcome to call in at the shop to browse and seek advice.
