Paul Sparks to join Uckfield Town Council

Paul Sparks is to be the new town councillor for the Uckfield North Ward. Mr Sparks (pictured), who lost his East Sussex County Council seat at the May elections, has been returned unopposed.

Two people were nominated for the north ward vacancy, created when Duncan Bennett resigned from the town council.

Mr Sparks, of Roman Way, described himself on the nomination form as: “Putting Uckfield people before politics”.

There was one other nomination for the vacancy – David Pryce, of Uplands Close. However, his nomination was invalid because, according to the official documentation from the electoral department of Wealden District Council, the elector numbers for the candidate, proposer and seconder were missing.

Uckfield Town Council’s north ward has five other councillors: Alan Whittaker, Louise Eastwood, Samantha Bryant, John Collins and Thelma Rumbelow.

Mr Sparks represented Uckfield on East Sussex County Council as a Liberal Democrat and lost the seat to Conservative, Claire Dowling.

Mr Spark’s wife, Dorothy, is a former member of the town council.
