Party celebrates 21 years since residents bought Luxford Centre

A party was held on Saturday to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Uckfield residents buying the Luxford Centre from East Sussex County Council.

The building, which used to be the town’s library, is now used by an over 60s club for meetings, coffee mornings, lunches, darts, short mat bowls, table tennis, Scrabble and more. New members are always welcome.

Club executive committee chairman Chris Macve welcomed everybody to Saturday’s celebration he said that it was thanks to a very determined group of residents that the money was raised to buy the building when the library moved to the old courts town hall.

A number of years later, with assistance from the National Lottery, the centre was extended providing the Tyler Room.

In addition to being used by the over 60s, the Luxford Centre is also hired by numerous other organisations, so helping to fund the upkeep and running of the building.

Full details of membership and hiring the centre can be found at www.luxfordcentre.co.uk.

Among guests at the celebration were Wealden MP Nus Ghani and county councillor Claire Dowling.
