Our independent Saturday columnist Observer welcomes the latest newcomer to the Ashdown Business Park on the outskirts of Uckfield.
If ever something was a “slow burner”, the Ashdown Business Park is it.
For many years the land was unoccupied and I cannot be the only one who wondered if the whole idea would ever come to fruition.
How wrong can you be?
Once development got under way, sites have been sold to prestigious companies with this week Geman company Vega Controls the latest to show its hand.
This is excellent news for the whole Uckfield economy.
We have seen huge housing development in the town over recent years but the nagging question has always been: where will the people work?
One answer to that has been in the Crawley/Gatwick area.
That has led to large numbers of people driving across the Ashdown Forest which, we are told is a fragile environment damaged by pollution from cars.
We need jobs in the Uckfield area to help reduce these commutes which are costly for people in terms of petrol and time and costly for the environment.
The Ashdown Business Park is a success story which gives us many good reasons to celebrate.
