Northbound lane of Lewes Road, Ridgewood, could be closed for six weeks

The northbound lane of Lewes Road, Ridgewood, could be closed for six weeks from June 11, to July 20.

East Sussex county councillor Chris Dowling.

East Sussex county councillor Chris Dowling says he has received notice of the closure which he describes as “excessive and over the top”. He is taking the matter up with the highways department and challenging the need.

The notice says the closure would be from the Little Horsted roundabout, to the Highlands Inn roundabout, a distance of 1151 metres. The reason given is to allow construction works on new entrances to the Ridgewood Farm development.

Chris said he couldn’t understand why closure of the full length of the road would be considered when roadworks to provide access started about 400 metres into the road from the Little Horsted roundabout.

He was concerned about residents living at places along the route such as Sandridge and Pipersfield, and on the rest of Uckfield, as people were forced to find different routes into town.
