Everyone in Uckfield will be encouraged to have their say as the town’s Neighbourhood Plan is formulated.
The newly-appointed chairman of the steering group, Norman Wood, said the challenge was to try and get the views from every single person person living in the town plus opinions from businesses.
Mr Wood, a retired headteacher, said they were still working on how they would fully engage the community.
He said it was not about the steering group’s individual views but about the public’s views.
Five key themes would guide the work of the group which is expected to last well into next year.
- Social infrastructure, including leisure;
- Environment, sustainability and design;
- Transport infrastructure; and
- Retail and economy.
The initiative to establish a Neighbourhood Plan came from the town council which initially brought people together.
The steering group is now independent of the council. Three town councillors are members of the group which will send progress reports to the council.
Mr Wood, who lives in the centre of the town, has previously lived on Manor Park and The Ridings. He has been a resident for 36 years.
