Notices listing 35 stretches of road in Uckfield where yellow lines could prohibit waiting at any time have been attached to lamp posts across town.
A spokesperson said: “The Highway Code restricts parking opposite or within ten metres of a junction. The proposed restrictions will help to enforce this requirement and increase safety at these junctions.”
The Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting Order is being introduced as part of a package of measures to improve Uckfield town centre and it could help control commuter parking in streets around the railway station.
List of roads
The list of roads, which can be seen below, includes Bridge Farm Lane, Farriers Way and Forge Rise, Mill Drove, and Bell Lane on the Bellbrook Estate. All are places where there are concerns about cars parking for long periods of time during the day.
It is hoped that a new car park at the station will be used by commuters but residents fear they will still park in the streets to avoid parking charges.
Richard Judge who lives in Farriers Way said the restrictions would mean he could no longer park outside his own home. He reckoned seven places where people park at the moment would be lost in that area.
He said: “I am really angry about this as it appears that commuters will at least be able to pay for parking while residents will be left with the only option being to block pave their front gardens.”
A consultation on the proposals is under way at the moment and will run until August 8. Written objections, or other representations, along with grounds on which they are made will be considered by the council.
They can be sent by email to LegalTROS@eastsussex.gov.uk quoting the reference TR0/316.
