Plans for a new gym in Uckfield are being considered by Wealden District Council.
Colin Care, of Uckfield Road, Lewes, has applied to change the use of premises on the Bellbrook Business Park.
Documents lodged with the application for Unit 1, 52-60 Bell Lane, say the gym would operate from 6am to 9pm daily with two full-time staff and two part-time staff.
The main area will be an equipment room with free weights, plate machines and other training equipment.
“There is no other such facility in Uckfield,” the application states. It also envisages 15,000 client visitors per annum once the gym is full operational and housing developments have been completed.
“We do feel that this will impact on the traffic movements for the better as our clients will be arriving by green means as opposed travelling outside the town,” the application says.
Addressing the issue of the 7km Ashdown Forest development clampdown, the applicant says Unit 1 has had a great impact on the Forest in the past. The user had a repair contract with 15 insurance companies for the recovery of damaged cars from mor ethan 5 miles away by low-loader.
The gym will be marketed to local people so it is not anticipated that people will cross the Forest to visit.
The unit has ten allocated parking spaces.
