New drama classes launch in Uckfield

New drama classes are being launched in Uckfield with free taster sessions this evening.

The classes are being launched by Cathryn Tye who says that one of the best things about drama is the way it encourages confidence in children and young people.

She said: “It is a life skill and, whether you are about to move from a small primary school to a large secondary school or, as an adult, are asked to deliver a speech to a hall full of people a background in drama and the confidence that gives you makes all the difference.

Cathryn added that performing in front of others, and in being judged, becomes familiar through drama and also gives a person the option of acting as a different character while going through what could be a tough experience.

Her classes will be for youngsters aged from seven to 18 who will be taught in two groups, juniors, covering years three to six, and seniors, from year six onwards.

The venue will be Crockstead Farm Hotel, where there is plenty of parking space, and where parents and carers waiting for children will be able to relax over a coffee or tea.

Classes will be geared towards London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (Lamda) examinations, which are a good starting point for young people wanting to get on to the stage and which can also add to the tally of UCAS points needed by those heading for university.

Group lessons are based on members devising their own dramas having been given just a title, and there are duologue classes for students working in pairs who will work towards Lamda exams and festival performances.

In addition Cathryn also works one-to-one with students, perhaps helping with A-level drama work or with audition preparation helping individuals to bring out their personality, show themselves to be unique and helping them to stand out from the crowd.

“The ability to stand out from the crowd, to be different from others, is something that will be of benefit in any walk of life,” said Cathryn.
