New date set for Framfield Road and New Town exhibition

A new date has been set for an exhibition on the Framfield Road and New Town area of Uckfield.

It is to be held at Bridge Cottage from Saturday, January 25, to Saturday, February 1 (closed on Sunday, January 26). Admission will be free of charge.

Before then an open day is to be held in Bridge Cottage on Saturday, October 12, from 10am to 2pm and anyone with pictures or items relating to the shops in the Framfield Road/New Town area is welcome to call in.

Catalogues and price lists

Organisers of the main exhibition, called Uckfield South of the River, are keen to meet anyone with pictures, catalogues, price lists and similar ephemera relating to shops and businesses.

They say: “They might be about the laundry, a pub, post office, fish and chip shops, any of the shops in the area, the builders’ merchants, the railway station and goods yard, or any other business.

“While we have plenty of relevant material we are particularly keen to assemble more pictures and ephemera for the exhibition.

Welcome

“Anyone who can describe the area since 1940 from personal memories (or who has a relative who can) will be particularly welcome.”

Anyone who cannot attend on the 12th but would like to let the organisers know about anything mentioned above is asked to contact Bridge Cottage by phone, 01825 760734, or by email, admin@bridgecottageuckfield.co.uk.
