Staff from Ridgewood Post Office will be getting muddy for a good cause next month.
They will be taking part in Pretty Muddy, a 5km obstacle course, with the aim of raising £500 for Cancer Research.
All are involved because each of them knows someone that is either fighting cancer, has beaten cancer or been lost to the disease. “We are going to play dirty now,” said Ellen Eastwood.
Her friend Laurence Knight, aged just 20, who lives in Newhaven, has been fighting cancer for more than four years. Her nan fought breast cancer and survived but other family members weren’t as lucky.
She said the Ridgewood Post Office trio, which also includes Emma Taylor and Karen Varney spotted the fund-raising event advertised in a magazine and booked to take part at Maidstone on Saturday, July 11. They will also be joined by a former Post Office employee Emma Naylor and by Ellen’s sister Ruth Eastwood.
Ellen, who has also done the Race for Life at Eastbourne every year for 12 years since she was eight, says she is looking forward to getting muddy but Karen, while totally committed to the fund-raising, was not quite as relaxed about the idea.
All though, are making sure they will be fit on the day. Ellen, who also does dog sitting and walking, is running instead of walking with the dogs at the moment, and Karen is a Zumba enthusiast.
“We are grateful to Sue and Jon Gothard who will be manning the Post Office on the day. It is thanks to them that we are able to take part,” said Ellen.
Look out for a collection box at the Post Office if you would like to support the girls or visit their JustGiving page to make a donation.
