The charity’s local collections host Richard Long said Marie Curie one-to-one care costs £20 an hour and so the funds raised on December 7 and 10 equate to 43 hours of personal care by the charity’s nurses.

Mr Long added: “Of course none of this would be possible without the huge generosity of people donating, Tesco store for giving MC volunteers the opportunity to collect on their premises and last but certainly not least the Marie Curie collectors.

“The collectors were Angela Pashley, Hilary Spillard, Catherine Harrop, Mike Austin, Kathryn Williams, Catherine Harker, Christine Hoar, Emma Logan and Jeanette Oakley.

“On behalf of Marie Curie and personally, I would like to say a big thank you to ALL concerned who helped make the Christmas Collection the wonderful success it was.”
