Minions were the stars of the show when they took to the stage instead of dwarfs in a production of Snow White at St Philip’s School, Uckfield.
The seven yellow creatures wearing goggles and dungarees, who first appeared in the popular film Despicable Me, were chosen to bring the story up to date for children and those watching said they certainly did not disappoint.
They had the whole school on their feet dancing to Everything is Awesome from the Lego Movie and Do you Wanna be a Minion, a song especially adapted from Frozen for all the children to sing along to.
The panto which was staged by the Friends of St Philip’s raised nearly £1,200 for school projects. At the moment the focus is on improving an outdoor play area on the school field so that it can be used all year round but there are smaller projects ongoing too aimed at helping the school and keeping the children happy.
One of the latest completed tasks is a new circus tent style roof over a quiet area, providing shade, shelter and an outdoor space for activities and learning.
The Friends’ pantomime was directed and stage-managed for the first time by Julia Shelley (Mum to Ben in Year 7 and Jasmine in Year 3). She has taken the role over from Helen Watts.
The resident pianist was Dominic Hartley, one of the Dads at school.
The Friends were pleased to welcome the new school headteacher Joanna Sanchez to their show.
