Memories and photos shared at Uckfield Telephone Exchange reunion

Memories were shared and photographs displayed when former Uckfield exchange telephonists were joined by ex-GPO engineers, postmen and counter clerks for a reunion.

It is 50 years since Uckfield Manual Telephone Exchange was closed and a ‘Hello Girls’ reunion group traced colleagues from years leading up to 1969 for the get-together.

More ex-GPO staff attending the reunion can be seen in this photograph.

They met at The Uckfield Club and remembered the good times while enjoying a spread of food.

One of the organisers Mary Potter said it was a wonderful event. These photographs were taken by her husband Andy.

There was even a telephone from the past which brought back memories.

There was plenty to eat at this special reunion.

Some memories are included in this Uckfield News story carried at the time the reunion was being planned: Uckfield exchange telephonists plan reunion.
