Sister Lucy arrived in Uckfield in 1966. She lived at St Michael’s Convent, home of the Sisters of Mercy, until November 2009, when plans were made to demolish the building.

She moved to Midhurst and has lived there ever since with two other sisters from Uckfield, Sister Barbara and Sister Anastasia.

Sister Lucy’s funeral was held at Midhurst yesterday but a warm welcome will be extended to people who would like to attend the Memorial Mass at the Church of Our Lady Immaculate and St Philip Neri on Saturday at 11.30am.

When Sister Lucy first arrived in Uckfield she spent a year teaching before becoming head at St Philip’s School, a role she held for 17 years.

Following retirement she was a governor for five years. Then she was asked to go to Hill House prep school where she stayed until 1993 when the sisters relinquished charge of the school which re-located to Mayfield.
