Karen Bedwell has been elected a member of the plans committee of Uckfield Town Council.
Cllr Bedwell, from Ridgewood, takes the place of Cllr Donna French (East Ward) who has stood down from the committee, which she also chaired.
Cllr French continues as a town councillor and remains a member of the environment and leisure committee, where she is vice-chair.
A report to a meeting of the full council last week from the town clerk, Holly Goring, said Cllr French wished to stand down from the plans committee due to “personal commitments”.
It will be for plans committee members to decide who will chair the meetings.
A decision will be made at the next physical meeting of the committee.
The plans committee now comprises councillors:
Karen Bedwell, Duncan Bennett Jez Beesley, Ben Cox, Jackie Love, Chris Macve and Spike Mayhew.
What role does Uckfield Town Council have in the planning process?
Uckfield Town Council does NOT have the power to grant or refuse any planning permissions whatsoever.
The council is a statutory consultee; meaning the council has to be consulted on any planning applications within its boundary.
It can only pass on advice to Wealden District Council – the council which grants or refuses planning permission.
