A massive fund-raising task lies ahead of Ridgewood Village Hall committee but members are already proving it is worth the effort.
They have a long list of community users and have just received a Hallmark award which recognises good standards in management of the hall.
Now they are throwing themselves into raising about £300,000 to extend and refurbish the building and they are hoping people will support events coming up to speed them on the way.
Tickets are available for a live band and hog roast on Friday, October 6; family friendly fireworks – including fire eating show – on Saturday, November 3, and a Christmas fair on Saturday, December 1.
The hall agm is being held on Tuesday, October 23, at 8pm and all are welcome to attend. If you would like to join the committee, or help with the fund-raising, committee members will be pleased to hear from you.
Chairman Karen Bedwell says they are also looking for sponsors of the fireworks and sponsors for the building project itself.
She says there has been a lot of support from local businesses so far and fund-raising community events already held have been well supported and brought back a community feel to Ridgewood.
The plan is to extend the village hall by nearly 50%, providing a new kitchen, meeting room, table tennis room, and more space in the main hall.
There will also be new hardstanding to the side elevation facing the field and planting at the rear. In addition the building is to be clad in timber weatherboarding to improve the overall appearance.
The hall was built in the early 1980s when there was a population of about 2,600 people living in the area. The current population is more than 3,680, and another 1,000 homes are to be built on its doorstep.
