Marie Curie collections in Uckfield raise nearly £760

Christmas collections in Uckfield on behalf of Marie Curie, a charity providing care and support for people living with terminal illness, raised nearly £760.marie-curie-2016

The collections were made at Tesco on Friday, December 9 and 11, when £759.98 was raised. Additional collections at Waitrose in Heathfield on Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, raised another £619.51.

Richard Long, chairman of the Marie Curie Uckfield Fund-raising group said the total equates to nearly 69 hours of Marie Curie one-to-one care for patients in their darkest hours.

He added: “The collections have been an amazing achievement, only made possible by volunteers giving up two hours of their time to assist with the appeal. To that end I cannot thank the volunteers enough who collected on behalf of Marie Curie.”

• Marie Curie will be collecting again in March for their Great Daffodil Appeal. If any local business would like to have a collection box on their premises for about six weeks please contact Richard by email at

He would also like to hear from anybody who would like to give two hours to assist with a store or street collection then.
