Proposals for a new pre-school at Bonners CE Primary School, Maresfield, are progressing through the planning system.
Wealden District Council has said it has no objections to the plans for a single-storey building towards the school’s northern site boundary, between the existing netball courts and football pitch.
The new pre-school would offer full day care for 30 two to five year olds.
The aim is to develop an extended schools services for children from two to 11 years old as part of a phased plan.
It is envisaged these would include a breakfast club, after-school care and holiday play scheme.
These services, says a report lodged with the application, would be developed in collaboration with Bonners school, subject to financial viability.
“There is a clearly defined need for suitable pre-school facilities in Maresfield as the existing provisions, split between Fairwarp and Maresfield villages is unsuitable in terms of location, scope and quality of accommodation,” the report states.
The village halls used for pre-school education fail to meet statutory requirements. It is also pointed out that Maresfield has been indentified as a “village with growth potential” by Wealden District Council with “strategic potential for up to 500 new dwellings”.
