Texture and vibrancy of colour are back on trend in the furnishings industry and Derek Crowson chairman of an Uckfield company which trades around the world has responded with an immediate injection of cash into the business.
Crowson Fabrics, known for the quality of its fabrics and leading the field in design, is making the most of a move away from the ‘coffee and cream, beige and more beige’ years, as Managing Director Chris Worrall, pictured above, describes them.
Company Chairman and founder Derek Crowson, who is still, at the age of 75, involved in the day-to-day running of the business was quick to react to the new trend and £750,000 has been invested in new collections, new products and new cloths for 2013.
Inspiration has been taken from ethnic origins and old documentation invested in by the company, stored in a major archive worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, and built up over 35 years.
Add to that a journey across continents, equivalent to travelling once around the world, and you see the formula for 23 new collections tailored to meet aspirations of people in different parts of the world, from the UK to Russia, to the Middle and Far East, Australia and America.
The collections combine traditional and modern printing and weaving techniques giving the highest standards of quality and design.
The company is now recruiting with ten new jobs available in Uckfield ranging from office to warehouse staff. Currently about 40 people are employed in Uckfield with another 40 employed across the world.
Mr Worrall said: “We have travelled the world for inspiration for our new collections and found additional mills to produce a variety of fabrics to showcase our new designs. We are also introducing different price points to suit all sections of the market.”
He added: “We are enjoying the return to texture and vibrancy of colour and the future is looking good.”
The Crowsons marketing display team has created an in-store display package to show the buying public how their curtains could look with expert making provided by the Crowson Fabrics own workroom facility. Visitors are welcome by appointment.
