Look out for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts selling Uckfield fiesta programmes

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 4th Uckfield (Holy Cross) Scout Group will be calling door-to-door in Uckfield over the next two weeks selling programmes for their fiesta.

The programmes cost £1 each and give details of activities which will be part of the fiesta and a fun dog show on Saturday, June 18, from 1.30pm.

Income from the sale of the programmes and from fiesta events will go towards upkeep of the Scout hut in Rocks Park Road and provide a little extra cash for the group’s eight units.

200 members

Secretary Carolyn Emsley said the annual fiesta and dog show are the only fund-raising events held by the group and the money raised goes towards activities for the 200 children and young people who are members.

She added: “All the leaders, executive committee, everyone involved in the group, are volunteers and give their time freely but we do need to find the money to cover running costs, gas and electricity.”

The group also hires out the hut to organisations as diverse as Universal Dance, Tumble Tots, for daytime parties and for caligraphy classes, and that helps pay for the upkeep of the hall.

Other than that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – aged from six to 18 – use the hall each evening during term time. There are three Cub units, three Beaver units and two Scout units.

A wide range of activities are covered from swimming to Chip Shop Walks, and from orienteering to camps.

All are welcome to attend the fiesta day and dog show. Attractions will include Debs Dancers, games, tea, coffee and cake, a barbecue, stalls and ice-cream.
