An Uckfield employee of South East Water who started working for the company 25 years ago has been recognised for his long service.
Chris Skinner, site supervisor for the engineering Department, was among 17 staff presented with certificates and gift vouchers after clocking up an impressive total of 455 years in the water industry.
Little did 20-year-old Chris know that walking into the offices of Mid Sussex Water in his hometown of Uckfield would lead to a 25 year and counting career.
He had been working as a self-employed tree surgeon but work was drying up so he thought he would see if he could get a more reliable job. Three weeks later he found himself installing water meters and pressure reducing values for the company in and around Uckfield.
When Mid Sussex Water bought West Kent Water to create South East Water, Chris then started working in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge areas as well. His next job was a contract inspector followed by a distribution technician until 2013 when he started work as a site supervisor with engineering.
Chris describes himself as lucky. He said: “I have always considered that I have a good job working with good teams and I have never had a manager I haven’t got on with.”
In congratulating Chris, Paul Butler, Managing Director, South East Water, said: “Chris has shown, and continues to show, dedication to his job, his team and to the company. The water industry has seen many changes in the years he has been working here, but he has taken it all in his stride continuing to work hard so we can keep providing top quality water and an excellent five out of five service.”
