Limited bus service to replace strike-hit Southern trains

A limited bus service from Uckfield to Tunbridge Wells will operate on three Southern Rail strike days this week.

There are no trains on the Uckfield Line today (January 10), tomorrow  (11th) and on Friday, January 13.

The dispute is over driver only operation of trains. This week’s strikes are by driver-members of the union ASLEF.

An overtime ban is affecting services across the Southern network on non strike days.

The temporary bus service to Tunbridge Wells from Uckfield also calls at Crowborough.

You can find a pdf timetable for the the services to and from Tunbridge Wells, which will run at least hourly. First bus out of Uckfield is 5.15am with the last from Tunbridge Wells at 8.40pm. See details on the Southern website

Yesterday’s morning peak services from Uckfield and Buxted left passengers exasperated.

The number of trains running is fewer than the usual timetable but still the 6.30am departure was short-formed.

One social media user claimed Southern had “26 Uckfield Line diesel units empty at the depot”.

The first train of yesterday’s evening peak, the 4:08pm, did not run because of a lack of staff.
