Beekeeping, Holiday French and Holiday Italian are three subjects to be covered in workshops being held this weekend in Uckfield.
All are being organised through the Adult College for Rural East Sussex (ACRES) at Uckfield Community Technology College.
The beekeeping course will run on Saturdays for five weeks and aims to give an introduction to some of the practical skills necessary to successfully keep bees using traditional and natural methods.
Learning will take place in a classroom and in an apiary belonging to ACRES and Uckfield Community Technology College. There will be practical demonstrations along with hands-on involvement in setting up hives, handling bees and using beekeeping equipment.
The beekeeping workshops will run each Saturday from 10am to 2pm and the fee will be £146. Those interested will also need to buy a beekeeping hat and veil plus gloves, for about £20, as basic safety equipment for handling bees.
Each of the language classes are being held for one day only.
The Holiday French class runs from 10am to 3pm and costs £36. The aim is to give people looking forward to holidays in France the chance to get in the mood and make the most of their trips.
No previous experience is needed. You will learn how to greet people and make simple introductions; order a couple of drinks and snacks; buy holiday basics such as a postcard, stamp, cheese, a paper; name key places in town, such as beach, park, cashpoint, and ask for a ticket or two.
The Holiday Italian class runs from 10am to 4pm and will cost £43.25. It will enable you to carry out simple tasks useful for a holiday in Italy. It will also introduce the basics of the Italian language should you wish to learn it in the future.
There will be individual and group activities, role-play of everyday tasks, videos showing real-life situations in Italian and you will listen to simple conversations in Italian.
