Latest Covid-19 deaths data

There were no deaths from Covid-19 in Wealden during the seven days to September 15, the latest figures show – but it is not all good news.

It is the third successive week in which the district has not seen at least one death from the Coronavirus.

In fact, the dataset kept by this website shows Covid deaths have either been at one or two per week since mid July.

These numbers are dwarfed by statistics from the spring when there were 21 Covid deaths in one week in April.

The latest data is for deaths to September 15 (registered up to October 3), based on any mention of Covid-19 on the death certificate.

Cases continue to rise

Data on the number of people who have died lags that of the number of cases.

Generally, we update lab-confirmed cases on a Monday (see our latest report here).

However, it is worth noting the upward trend in the number of cases illustrated in this week’s story has continued with 20 more cases recorded over the last two days.

Uckfield area ‘hotspot’

One particular “hotspot” in the Uckfield area is a community described in the statistics as Chelwood and Nutley, which includes Fletching.

There have been six reported cases in this area between September 26 and October 2.

Other communities in and around Uckfield are still registering as between 0 and two cases in the same period – specific numbers are not issued when the total is two or fewer.

Those communities are:

  • Uckfield Town and North
  • Uckfield South (New Town and Ridgewood)
  • Buxted, Framfield and Rotherfield (includes High Hurstwood, Blackboys and Waldron)
  • Five Ash Down, Horsted and Chiddingly (includes Maresfield, Piltdown, Isfield, Halland, East Hoathly and Laughton)

For data collection purposes the Office for National Statistics breaks down the country into communities with similar sized populations of around 7,200 average population.

  • For comparison purposes, in the same timeframe, there have been 11 cases in Lewes.

The number of cases in Uckfield area communities is reported over a different period to the Wealden figures, as are some of the seven-day rolling averages. This is due to the timings of data releases.

This website maintains its own datasets to track Covid-19 in Uckfield, surrounding villages and Wealden more generally. Our statistics are generally taken from ONS data and other published Government sources..

We normally report cases each Monday, based on data up to 4pm the previous day, to allow seven-day comparisons to be made.

We generally update the number of deaths in Wealden on a Wednesday and for Uckfield and surrounding villages on a monthly basis.
