The garden got very dry last month and while the odd downpour kept things ticking over last week’s rain was welcome.
The dry spell meant that the grass didn’t need very frequent cutting and it has become rather straw like, however if the rain continues hopefully that will change, writes the Anonymous Gardener.
The summer bedding planted in June is looking good despite the fact that deer helped themselves to some of the flowers in the front garden. We have replaced those with cornflowers.
Also the dianthus which were pictured in my last column did not last very well so were replaced with zinnia. The fuschia and marigolds still look well.
Elsewhere the roses have been looking beautiful and range in colour from red to orange to light pink.
