Kier’s waste collection performance deteriorates again, says Wealden Council

The performance of Wealden waste contractors Kier has deteriorated again, according to a report going to a council committee next week.

Cllr Roy Galley, portfolio holder for economic development and waste management, says there were more than 2,000 missed bins in one week mid-July.

Cllr Galley says: “This has now improved to 742 two weeks ago. However performance has again deteriorated.”

He adds: “The main problem seems to be that there is a lot of competition for drivers and Kier are looking at ways to recruit and retain drivers, and we are discussing with them how they can resolve the problem.

“In the meantime we are exercising step-in rights and giving work to other contractors as necessary.”
