KFC shows interest in Uckfield High Street shop

The former Goodwins betting shop, next to Boots, where KFC hopes to open a restaurant and takeaway.

KFC is hoping to take over an Uckfield High Street shop and is applying for planning permission to open a restaurant and takeaway there.

Chris Lawson of commercial agents Lawson Commercial says he has been talking to the company over a period of five years about them coming to town but they have always held out saying they wanted space for a drive through.

Now in a complete about-turn the company is hoping to take over the former Goodwins Betting Shop at 1 Bell Walk.

Chris said the advantages of the site are the car park behind the building and the 1,200 sq ft size of the premises.

KFC had wanted to go further up the High Street but the shops there are smaller, either 600 or 700 sq ft, and putting two together would make them too expensive.

This news will be welcomed by many in Uckfield who put KFC at the top of their wish list for the town. Another popular choice has always been M&S.
