KFC eyes Uckfield ‘drive-thru’

Uckfield is on a long list of target locations for KFC in the South East, East Anglia and around the M25.

The fast-food giant lists the town for a possible “drive thru”.

‘Ideal’ requirements listed by the company for a potential site are:

  • 0.3 acre plus site;
  • Freehold, leasehold, long leasehold;
  • 20 spaces or shared car parking;
  • Various formats including stand alone sites, existing conversions, inline units with ability for sweep-by drive thru lane.

KFC  (Kentucky Fried Chicken) has sites nearby in Mid Sussex at Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead, at Hailsham and Tunbridge Wells.

The company has previously been on the brink of opening a store on the Uckfield/Maresfield by-pass.

KFC nearly came to Uckfield in 2012

In 2012 this website reported that KFC was seeking planning permission for “drive thru” by converting the former Burger King/Little Chef which traded on the mini services area at the Black Down roundabout.

The planning application was approved.

However, in the September of 2012, we reported that McDonald’s was seeking planning permission to redevelop the Little Chef on the site.

The restaurant, McDonald’s second in Uckfield, opened in the middle of January the following year.
