January 2016 Uckfield Business Scene
by Paul Watson
Twelve months ago I said the development of the Ashdown Business Park was of great significance for business in the Uckfield area.
It’s taken time but now we know the John Lewis Partnership is the first to confirm it will be moving on to the site, just off the Maresfield by-pass.
Persuading John Lewis to come is a major coup. It is a prestige name in British business and its presence is likely to encourage other businesses to move on to the site.
The chairman of Wealden District Council, Barby Dashwood-Morris, welcomed the development in her Christmas message saying:
“It is exciting, at the end of the year, to be welcoming a major distribution hub to the Ashdown Business Park in Maresfield with the promise of 60 new jobs.”
She also pointed to a business park development not too far south of Uckfield and struck an optimistic note when writing:
“With further growth planned for the Swallow Business Park at Lower Dicker, I am sure that many more businesses will want to follow suit and base themselves in Wealden”
