John Carvey is to stand down as Uckfield Mayor at the town council’s annual meeting in May.
He chaired his last full meeting of the authority on Monday night and was thanked by councillors for his work as mayor over the last three years.
Mr Carvey will continue in office until a new mayor is elected by councillors at their annual meeting. After that, he will continue as a town councillor, representing central ward. He is also a Wealden district councillor.
*At the start of Monday’s meeting, councillors stood in memory of former councillor, Stan French, who died recently.
Mr French was described as a “true gentleman” and “very welcoming” when new people joined the council.
Cllr Carvey said right until the end Mr French had been picking up litter in Grange Road, near to the High Street, and said he was a “great public servant”.
