Job vacancy: Musical director for Uckfield Singers Community Choir

Uckfield Singers are still searching for a musical director to conduct their Monday evening rehearsals and occasional concerts and events.

If you have a thorough knowledge of vocal technique and repertoire, are a good communicator, well-organised and resourceful with a sense of humour then this could be the job for you.

A job description and details of pay are available by contacting Elaine Morris, secretary of the Uckfield Singers, at

The community choir is 90 members strong and open to anyone who enjoys singing. No auditions are held and therefore the membership comprises all abilities. It is a choir for adults with a minimum age of 16 years.

The choir has fun singing a variety of popular music and concerts raise money for local and national charities.

A small group within the choir is being established to take music into care homes and community groups, although this new group is not seen as part of the role of the musical director.

The choir rehearses Monday evening 7.30-9.30pm, thirty-six weeks of the year in Uckfield and there are also concerts and other events during the year.

The Singers say: “This is a role requiring flair and creativity in addition to sound musical abilities. The musical director will lead the group of singers, inspiring them to improve their techniques and widen their range of musical ability, whilst enjoying their singing experience.

The closing date for letters of application is August 28 and interviews will be held late afternoon and evening on Monday, September 7, in Uckfield.
