The Hughes Way play area which Uckfield Town Council is to upgrade

Hughes Way play area delay

Revamping the Hughes Way play area in Uckfield is taking longer than expected.

Town councillors are concerned at the delays which have been caused by the contractor waiting for equipment.

It is now unlikely work will begin before Christmas.

A start date is awaited from HAGS-SMP which has been given the contract to do the work.

At one stage, it had been hoped construction would be done in the autumn.

Town councillors have also been told that a check has been made with Wealden District Council which had confirmed that no planning permission was required.

*When the play area was upgraded at Ridgewood, the council found it should have made an application for planning permission for a piece of equipment and was forced to make a retrospective planning application, which was granted.
