Clearance is under way at the back of the site where a station car park is to be built in Uckfield.

Hitch as work begins on Uckfield station car park

Network Rail contractors clearing land ready to build a station car park in Uckfield have immediately discovered a hitch.

An important gas pipe has been found running the length of the site, just one metre below the surface when it was expected to be lower. They are waiting to hear what British Gas wants to do about the pipe.

Men working yesterday said the pipe would affect placement of the car park’s drainage system and so it was likely to be moved.

Surface water will be drained from the site into a reservoir to be built at the far end of the site so that its release into the river can be controlled.
