Award-winning Bluebell Vineyard Estates, in Furners Green, has begun its 2015 grape harvest and you can get involved at a special event on Saturday (October 17).
Members of the public will have the opportunity to experience English wine production first hand by joining a ‘harvest experience’.
Participants will hand-pick grapes, learn what happens behind the scenes and see how sparkling wine is made, before sampling the freshly pressed juice of the grapes picked that morning.
Winemaker at Bluebell Vineyard Estates Kevin Sutherland said: “Joining a vineyard for harvest is an unforgettable experience. It’s a great opportunity to really understand the winemaking process, get your hands dirty and have a lot of fun at the same time.”
He said: “The grape harvest is the most exciting part of the vineyard year and it is what we work towards all season.
“Every vintage is different and after near perfect conditions for flowering and a warm Autumn ripening period, the prospects for the quality of the 2015 vintage are very good.”
Bluebell Vineyard Estates, established in 2005, is situated close to the Bluebell Railway and Sheffield Park, and is home to over 100,000 vines growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Seyval Blanc.
The estate produces premium English sparkling wine and has achieved more than 40 national and international awards since their first release in 2007.
The 2015 harvest will continue at Bluebell Vineyard, where there are 25 hectares of vines, for three weeks.
Tickets for the harvest experience cost £35 a person and include lunch and a tutored wine tasting with winemaker Kevin Sutherland.
