What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, Uckfield was shivering and the first snow fell during the evening of Monday, February 26.
In the last week or so we have been enjoying unbroken sunshine and temperatures hitting marks normally seen towards the end of May
Late February, 2018, was a totally different story.
Snow quickly coated the town as what became known as the Beast from the East struck.
Here’s a view of what it was like that evening as Uckfield went into the chiller.
Next morning, the snow brought disruption to transport, bin collections and schools.
The normally busy Luxford Field car park was deserted at 8.30am.
Here are some then and now photographs comparing 2019 with 2018. Last year’s photographs were taken during the snowfall and the 2019 photographs on February 25.
Some places in the UK reached 20C (68F) yesterday. A year ago temperatures were hovering around freezing.
