Brighton and Hove Albion’s Dick Knight coming to Uckfield

The roadshow, organised by Active Sussex which promotes sport and physical activity, will take place at Uckfield Civic Centre on Tuesday, April 5, from 6-8pm.

The aim is to bring together local clubs to network, learn and reflect on their successes and challenges and provide a boost to attendees going forward.

There will be advice about funding, training, volunteering, networking and more. Attendees will also be able to get training on topics such as marketing, club structures, governance, business planning and finance.

Dick Knight was chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion from 1997 to 2009 and life president from 2009 to date.

He was vital in bringing The Albion back to Brighton in 1999 and leading the campaign that led to the construction of their current stadium in Falmer.

He has also played a key part in local charity acting as chairman for Albion in the Community from 2005-2013 and from 2012 as a trustee of Martlets Hospice which cares for people affected by life-limiting illness in the Brighton area.

Wealden Council’s portfolio holder for community leadership, Cllr Claire Dowling said: “Sports clubs play a vital role in our communities, and this Active Sussex Workshop is a great opportunity for those who run them to get advice, new ideas and inspiration to help them succeed and grow their clubs.

“Having a keynote speech by Dick Knight is a real coup. He has been a cornerstone of sport and charity communities in Sussex for many years and I’m sure he will be fascinating and informative.”
