Plans to convert the former Methodist church in Framfield Road, Uckfield, into three flats have been refused by Wealden Council.
The district council said three on-site car parking spaces would be needed for the flats but the proposal didn’t include any.
It said, in a decision notice: “The lack of any vehicular parking facilities within the site would result in additional congestion on the public highway causing interference with the free flow and safety of traffic on the B2102 (Framfield Road), and surrounding road.”
The council added the highway safety harm would clearly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of the development, and there were clear reasons for refusing the proposal.
It added negotiations had taken place with the applicant but planning constraints leading to the refusal didn’t appear capable of resolution without major revision to the scheme.
