Two child care projects in villages near Uckfield have benefited from a county-wide £5m investment.
In a three-year government-funded programme now nearing completion, the money has been spent on building new nurseries or improving and extending existing buildings.
Among the latest projects funded are a new childcare building at Bonners Primary School in Maresfield and new early years facilities at Framfield Primary School, which was officially opened earlier this month.
Cllr David Elkin, the County Council’s Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness, said: “We have a duty to ensure there are sufficient childcare and pre-school options for parents.
“Obviously we have limited funds, and we know there are many other settings in need of refurbishment or investment, but we have had to make sure we spent this grant as effectively as possible. In many cases this will provide local communities with purpose-built nursery and childcare facilities for the first time.”
