A former garage on the main road at Rose Hill, between Uckfield and Lewes, could disappear and be replaced by new homes, if a bid for planning permission is successful.
Existing commercial buildings would be demolished and replaced by four, semi-detached three-bedroom houses.
Planning permission for two houses as granted in 2005 and renewed in 2008.
The new application is for outline planning permission and will be determined by Wealden District Council.
The site, formerly used as a country store, is outside the 7km restriction zone around the Ashdown Forest.
Pre-application advice from the council suggests the “principle of redevelopment would be acceptable”.
It has also told the applicant, Snap Properties Ltd, of Battle, the houses would probably generate a similar number of movements to those when used as a country store but without larger vehicles visiting, parking and manoeuvring next to the A26.
