Former Uckfield Town Mayor John Carvey has taken over as chairman of the town’s Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group.
Mr Carvey, who stood down from the town council at last May’s elections, takes over from Richard Judge.
The group, made up of townspeople, aims to start drafting a Neighbourhood Plan, based on the evidence and consultation over many months.
Town councillor Paul Sparks, Liberal Democrat, Uckfield North, said in a report to the town council:
“We have strong evidence on a range of environmental issues, including the protection of local green spaces.”
‘Unco-operative Wealden District Council’
Cllr Sparks’s report said before Christmas he had attended a seminar by Action in Rural Sussex (AIRS) on neighbourhood planning.
His reported stated:
“AIRS have a lot of experience in helping and supporting groups in preparing plans and work with many district/borough councils throughout Sussex and in their experience Wealden DC are the most unco-operative.
“I confirmed that was our experience.”
Cllr Sparks said AIRS had confirmed a neighbourhood plan could include little about housing, although the group could consider “windfall development” sites.
