The former Hobby Box shop in Uckfield High Street could be turned into offices.
The charity, International Animal Rescue which has premises are behind the building at Lime House, Regency Close has submitted a planning application for change of use.
The application before Wealden Council says there are no plans to carry out alterations either inside or outside the building at 121 High Street.
International Animal Rescue employs 14 full-time people and four part-time and that is not expected to change.
The charity saves animals from suffering around the world, such as cutting free, and caring for, dancing bears in India, rescuing primates from captivity in Indonesia and sterilising and vaccinating stray dogs and cats in developing countries.
