Former Dragon Inn premises in Uckfield sold

The former Dragon Inn restaurant premises at the top of Uckfield High Street have been sold.

Contracts have been exchanged for the sale of the freehold of the building which also accommodates the hairdressing salon Cowburn Cutting Company.

The former Dragon Inn premises and Cowburn Cutting Company together form the building that has been sold.

The sale was handled by chartered surveyors Oldfield Smith & Co and Richard Oldfield told Uckfield News that the new owners, who are tenants of another property in town, plan to do up the former restaurant and move their business into it.

Mr Oldfield said there had been several offers for the building and it was good news for the town that somebody was prepared to take on the listed building, which is in a conservation area and needs work doing.

He said he could not reveal the new owner yet but said that while the existing planning permission was for use as a restaurant the building could also be used as offices or for retail.

The Cowburn Cutting Company has a lease on their part of the premises which runs until 2024.
