Fishmonger to open in Uckfield High Street

A fishmonger is to move to the former L & J News premises in Uckfield High Street.

A fishmonger is getting ready to open a business in Uckfield High Street.

Extensive refurbishment is under way at L & J News, next door to Josefina, and it is hoped the new shop will open by Wednesday, May 5.

The owners are Rex and Becks Ffrench, who already run a fishmonger’s in Battle, and offer deliveries in Uckfield as well as across East and West Sussex.

Rex’s background is as a chef and he trains all his staff to be able to advise customers on the different types of fish available and how it can be cooked. He produces recipe cards for inspiration too.

The Uckfield shop will offer fresh fish, its own fish ready meals, and frozen fish too.

Rex says there’s a lot of work to be done on refurbishing the Uckfield shop but he wants to open as soon as possible because he has already recruited and trained the staff.

The former newsagent’s shop was let by commercial estate agents Oldfield Smith & Co.

Director Richard Oldfield said they were delighted to let the property to an already established and growing business.
