Firefighters’ families receive compensation ten years after fireworks factory blast

Families of two firefighters who were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory at Shortgate ten years ago have received compensation.

The fire which claimed the lives of Geoff Wicker and Brian Wembridge was recalled by Uckfield firefighter Ian Ritchie on his retirement this year.

He said the effects were still felt within the service today and a minute’s silence is held each year to remember the two.
