Fire, smoke, colour, music, drama . . . Uckfield Carnival had it all tonight (Saturday, September 2) as the massive procession went through the town.
The adult fancy dress judging took place in Elizabeth Gardens, off Grange Road.
Once that was completed the procession formed in Grange Road to emerge into the High Street just as darkness fell.
Members of Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society were supported by many Uckfield groups, individuals and visiting societies.
Visiting societies due to join the parade were Burgess Hill, Chailey, Crowborough, Eastbourne, East Hoathly and Halland, Ewhurst and Staplecross, Firle, Fletching, Hailsham, Isfield and Little Horsted, Lewes Borough, Lindfield, Littlehampton, Mayfield, Phoenix (Lewes), Rotherfield and Mark Cross, South Heighton, Waterloo (Lewes) and Who the Deveil Are We?
The on-foot procession picked up the tableaux, most on lorries, which had assembled in Bell Lane.
Collections taken by the Uckfield society will be distributed to local charities and good causes.
